Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2011

This week is breastfeeding awareness week, and with it being a cause so close to my heart (literally!) it would be rude not to write a few words about it!

Breastfeeding is absolutely the best thing that you can do for you and your baby. It passes on vital antibodies to your baby and protects you from breast and ovarian cancer.
I don't want to bang on too much about it as I know that it can create very heated arguments, however I want everyone to know that once you get going, breastfeeding is easy! And please don't be afraid to ask for help, be it asking for hubby to make a cup of tea, to calling a peer supporter up for help with feeding problems.

Surestart centres have a wealth of knowledge and people like me. Peer Supporters. Peer Supporters are Mum's who have probably been through what you have and are fully trained to help with all aspects of breastfeeding.

I am now a qualified Peer Supporter, see the photo of me graduating on Tuesday! And am willing and able to provide any information needed, whether you are pregnant and deciding between your options or what not :)
Me with my certificate!
Louie and I are still on our breastfeeding journey at 17 months tomorrow, we are still going strong with no signs of stopping yet!

Fathers Day

First cuddles with Papa
So as it was fathers day, I let Dan choose what he wanted to do for the day, and he decided he wanted to make calzone, so make calzone he did!

Making the bases

Ready for the oven
Waiting for them to cook! Time to play with Mr Bee!

Kisses for Papa

How yummy do they look!

For fathers day, I had no idea what to get Papa Bee. So I decided to use up the fabric paint I have had lying around for nearly a year and make him something for Uni, so he can show off to his friends!

So we made some handprints and turned it into a pencil case. I say we, as Louie really did help in all aspects, with the handprints more obviously, but he sat on my knee as I was at the sewing machine and helped turn the dials and feed the fabric through the foot. Clever 16 month old boy!

Needless to say, Papa Bee loved it :)

The Bee Hive @ Folksy

So last weekend I joked about holding my own craft stall but then got thinking about how it would be awesome to have a stall! So I started making stuff, and today I finished setting up my very own Folksy shop!

My first item has gone up for sale today, it is a grey phone case with a blue hot air balloon on it :)

Click on the photo to go to the shop :)

Craft Corner

Since getting into my crafting, I have been a bit of a wanderer with no fixed abode. Do a bit here, do a bit there. I have now accumulated too much stuff that is creating clutter everywhere.
So Papa Bee asked if I wanted to clear the desk in the bedroom for a craft area. So yesterday we spent a few hours clearing, sorted SO much for recycling it was untrue!

So now I have a dedicated crafting area, with boxes and drawers for storage and all sorts! Now I don't have to chuck everything in the basket, which is back to its intended purpose, storing fabric!

It is small, but just perfect for me :) Next step, a whole craft room! Mwahahaha!

Sneaky Peek; Matryoshka

Meeting Auntie Liz

Nana bee is a nurse on a ward which specialises in breast reconstruction surgery, following cancer. A few years ago, she nursed a patient called Liz, and they stayed in touch. Sadly, Liz moved to Teignmouth (lucky thing!) so we don't see her very often. However, a week or so ago she had some appointments so came to see us too!
Mr Bee just loved her, they sat and read books and played with shells :) And she showed us photographs of when she saw the Muse concert from her living room! (I told you she is a lucky thing!)

The National Trust

We signed up to the National Trust a few weeks ago as there are a few locations we would like to visit and it made more sense to become a member. Daddy Bee is adamant that he wont be displaying his parking sticker in his car as it may damage his 'rep'!

Louie seems raring to go though and has throughly studied the membership pack, and has been deciding where we want to go!

I think our first stop will be Calke Abbey, the un-stately home! It sounds awesome!

Crafty Treasures

Whilst I was on my travels in the North East, I stumbled upon loads of craft shops and stalls! I was very impressed :)
This was my favourite, The Sewing Box in Morpeth. An absolute treasure trove of everything sewing! I was in heaven! They have a website, you can find it here.

Durham has a wonderful indoor market that is full of surprises, like 'The Quilters Cupboard'. I managed to get some felt and ricrac to make strawberries for Louie, and some polka dot fabric ready for Summer's birthday party!

Re-Vamp

Hello :)
As you may have noticed, I have renamed my blog 'The Bee Hive'. Seeing as Louie is often referred to as 'Mr Bee' I thought it might be quite sweet :)
Things are looking a bit different too, hopefully you will like the little changes!

(P.S The domain will be staying the same)
