Tutbury Castle

This Bank Holiday Weekend we went to Tutbury Castle near Burton upon Trent for their Pirate day! It was a bit dull, rained heavily in the morning but the sun did come out in the afternoon. We packed a picnic which we ate in the car before venturing out to find some fun things to see and do.

We found some duelling pirates, falconry, a sand pit and a ruined castle which was once a prison to Mary Queen of Scots.

And some donkeys... before heading home for an enormous and scrumptious Sunday Roast.

What a lovely Sunday.

Kedleston Hall

Today Louie and I made a return visit to Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire. We have visited once before in the cold of winter, but it was freezing so we didn't stay for very long at all! Knowing the forecast was going to be fair today, I packed us a bag and drove us up the motorway. Louie had a grand time doing the wildlife trail, finding animal tracks, leaves, looking inside trees and making rubbings of various leaves and barks.
After a fantastic lunch (cheese toastie with homemade boozy chutney), we ventured in to the house which was just phenomenal. Breathtaking.

Whilst we were in the area (sort of), we dropped into Nottingham to visit Papa at work for the first time. We took him some goodies and joined him on his tea break. Louie made friends with the secretary and played table football and drew some pictures for Papa before we started off for home for a well earned rest!
